Suuthe your Skin

A few weeks back I was introduced to this great line of skin care products and am excited to share it with you. Suuthe by Mari offers natural and organic products for your body, face, and lips. From mild skin conditions to eczema and psoriasis relief, they are great for any skin type and any age. In fact, Mari Carlin Dart developed the skin repair that started it all to help alleviate her son’s eczema. In 2012 suuthe received the KIWI Award for Best Kids’ Personal Care. I received the suuthe skin repair and both the original and peppermint lip balms for review.

My daughter has sensitive skin (like her mama) and the Skin Repair has really come in handy. We have used it for mild skin irritations and itchiness caused by detergents and bug bites. We most recently used it for sunburn relief for the whole family. The skin repair provided instant relief. It is not greasy or too thick and goes on easily and absorbs quickly. It has a light, pleasant scent too.

The lip balms have been just as useful. My daughter is not a fan of minty flavors so I gave her the original, while I have been using the peppermint balm. During the hot Summer weather they have maintained our lips smooth and soft. I am certain we will be using these for the cold Winter months, as well.

The most important thing I look for in skin care is that it is safe for my little one to use. I love that suuthe products can be applied whenever and as much as is needed.  Only containing a short list of ingredients that are all 100% natural and/or organic, including emu oil, beeswax, and essential oils, this is the type of skin care line I want and need for my family and me.

The Products

suuthe products are created to provide fast, natural relief from severe to mild skin conditions. They are capable of soothing, repairing, maintaining, preserving and protecting your skin. suuthe formulations have been created by combining some of the world’s oldest and most effective ingredients. Each ingredient was chosen for its own unique qualities and ability to have a positive effect on the skin. As a result we are proud to bring you a line of skin products that truly work!

suuthe products are made using a very simple process. There are no additives or fillers used. Temperatures are kept at the lowest possible level in order to maintain the highest nutritive quality of each ingredient. We purposely source ingredients that are food grade. We want you to ‘feed’ your skin with nothing but the most pure and natural products available.

It is now common knowledge that the skin is the largest organ in the body. Everything you put on it is absorbed and ultimately ends up inside your body. suuthe products are specifically made with that in mind.

We have experienced the difficulty that skin conditions can cause first hand. suuthe was founded on the idea that with our products we can help our customers to overcome damaged skin and regain or maintain a high quality of life.

May Eco-Box for Moms

PicsArt_1369539184196When I opened up my Ecocentric Mom Discovery Box for Moms this month, I could not believe the goodies I got. The month of May definitely takes the cake so far….and here I thought the last couple of months would be hard to beat. The first thing to catch my eye….a full size bar of organic dark chocolate…bliss!!! If the May Mom Box products don’t convince you to sign up for your very own monthly subscription of awesome surprises, not sure what else will. Can’t wait for June…my birthday month!

Here’s the breakdown of the Mom Discovery Box for May from Ecocentric Mom:

Kallari Chocolate ~ This gourmet chocolate is not only organic and delicious, but helps to preserve the rainforests and protect the Kichwa culture. A full size bar sells for $5.95.

Orgain ~ The world’s first certified organic nutritional shake is a great way to get a healthy meal on-the-go. I have had the vanilla shake before and enjoyed it very much. It was great to be able to try the chocolate-flavored shake this time. Great after a workout. A single carton typically sells for $3.69. I also received a 40% off online coupon.

Gnu Bar ~ Another healthy snack I’ve tried before. Love these bars! They are high in fiber and low in calories. The chocolate brownie bar is so yummy. They are soft and chewy and made with organic and healthy ingredients. One bar typically sells for $1.99.

Fisika Soap ~ I received a sample of the coffee-vanilla soap. It smells so good and leaves my hands feeling soft. Fisika is Greek for “natural,” an appropriate name since it is made with natural ingredients, including organic olive oil and coconut oil. A sample-size bar goes for $2.22. I received a 10% off online coupon, as well.

Pura Botanica’s Rose Retreat Botanic Bath Infusion ~ I could smell these bath crystals as soon as I opened my box. The infusions are made with organic ingredients and are three-in-one bath therapies. Restorative mineral sea salts, fragrant essential oils, and curative herbs and flowers made for a spa-like, all-natural, destressing bath right in my own tub. Loved the smell of roses. A single botanic bath infusion sells for $10. I also received a “buy 1 get 1 free” online coupon.

Purely You Minerals Satin Plum Eye-Shadow ~ Back in March I took advantage of an Ecocentric Mom coupon I received for another mineral make-up company and got a lipstick I love. Well, this time I received a mineral eyeshadow I love. The plum shade is exactly what I typically use. The small size I received sells for $1.50. I am going to have to place an order and take advantage of the free lip gloss with $20 purchase offer.

Elma & Sana Argan Oil Peppermint Lip Balm ~ I am very excited about this product. Argan Oil is the latest craze and Elma & Sana sells Pure Organic Argan Oil. They use this same oil in their skin and hair care products. Argan Oil is known for having very high levels of Vitamin E and fatty acids. This provides anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and healing properties, among other benefits. The oil comes directly from Moroccan Women Cooperatives and supports women in business in Moroccan Villages where Argan trees grow. The lip balm sells for $4.99. I also received a 20% off online coupon.

doTerra Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Lemon Essential Oil ~ Essential oils have so many benefits and can be used for so many different reasons. The lemon essential oil sample I received has a great citrus smell that can be used to uplift your mood. It can also be used as a cleaner for the home, topical and internal cleanser, and can even soothe a sore throat. The oils generally sell for $13.33 per 15ml. When you sign up as a “preferred member” on the doTerra website you can always receive 20% off your order.

CocoPlum Soothe Spray ~Great discovery. This spray is made with organic green tea, pure aloe vera and a special blend of essential oils. It acts as a first aid kit in helping soothe skin from  sunburns, blemishes, rashes, itching and even stress. I’m sure it will come in handy this hot Summer season. I’m already carrying the sample in my purse. A 4oz full-sized bottle sells for $14. I also received a $5 off online coupon.

Branch Basics ~ Another great spray I am now carrying in my purse. Branch Basics is an all-purpose soap concentrate made from pure, food-grade ingredients. It is perfectly safe and non-toxic for all. It can be used to clean anything and everything, from household items to baby’s gentle skin. This product can basically replace all of your cleaning products and save you so much money, as well as help protect the environment. I received a pre-diluted 2 oz sample which sells for $3.75. I plan to use it on-the-go for those moments you need a quick hand cleaning and there’s no sink. It also works as a stain remover, produce cleaner and disinfectant for scrapes and cuts. The uses are endless. I will definitely be using my 15% off online discount.

Derma H2O Water Wipes ~ I am a huge wipey fan. They come in handy for so many things. The problem is most contain toxic chemicals, dyes and perfumes. It was very reassuring to find this pack of 10 Water Wipes…preservative-free, allergy friendly, made simply with 99.9% water and .1% grapefruit seed extract. This could very well be the safest, purest, gentlest wipe there is. Instant fan. The sample pack came with a 20% online promotion code.

OraMD ~ Another great surprise. Ironically, I have been using this product for the last few weeks. It is a 100% all-natural liquid toothpaste that offers so many benefits and is a better alternative to conventional toothpastes. A single bottle sells for $22.97 and lasts you a very long time. I also received a 15% off and free shipping online coupon. I am due to review this product on my blog in the next week and host a giveaway….so stay tuned! and ~ Coupon for $5 off your first order. Yet another coincidence…I was recently asked to join the blogger team for the Green Deals Blog! This is a great site for those who like to shop online. You can find just about anything you need or want to support your green, organic and healthy lifestyle. ~ $15 Gift Certificate. I’m looking forward to shopping for some organic, eco-friendly clothing on this site real soon.

Eco-friendly Body Care for People Who Care

I am so excited to share with you all about the following line of products.  Not only did I discover a body wash that I absolutely love, but I found a company that I truly respect for its philosophies on health, safety practices and giving back to the community.  Beecology was started by a family of beekeepers who wanted to come up with a creative way to use all their excess beeswax.  They definitely did not want it to go waste and they wanted it to benefit the entire family.  After different attempts, they finally came up with a lip balm that family and friends approved of…Beecology was born.

Beecology is based in Ohio and now offers a variety of eco-friendly products that are handcrafted from natural and renewable ingredients for the body, both inside and out. Their products include raw natural honey, beeswax lip balm, sulfate and preservative-free shampoo, conditioner and body wash, paraben-free honey hand & body creams, essential oil moisturizing soaps, and more. Their products can be found in about 150 stores across the U.S., Canada and online.

I was fortunate enough to try out their lavender set of body wash, hand & body cream and lip balm. Lavender has some great relaxing properties and I love the smell, but I have to say from past experience that these types of products have usually been on the heavily scented side, making it a bit unappealing. This was not the case with the Beecology products. The Original Honey Hand & Body Cream is lightly scented, thin and absorbs quickly into the skin. The Lemon & Lavender Beeswax Lip Balm is also lightly scented (more lemon than lavender), very smooth and has helped protect and soothe my lips (and my daughter’s) during this past cold winter month. My favorite though, by far, has been the Lavender with Bergamot Body Wash. It has a pleasant, light scent and when I put it on it feels like silk against my skin. I don’t doubt that this has something to do with it containing a blend of my 3 favorite oils: Coconut, Olive and Hemp. (Also contains Aloe and Honey.) I have sensitive skin and am prone to getting rashes from fragrances in bath products, but this stuff does no such thing. It has even made shaving so easy!  I truly love this stuff!

imageAside from high quality, ecologically friendly products, the greatest thing about Beecology is that they promote charitable giving. They will donate 10% of their net profits to the customer’s charity of choice! Each supported product contains a charity code on it. After purchasing, you simply visit the Beecology Charity website at, enter the code on the product and designate which charity you would like your percentage to be donated to. What an amazing way to give back! In light of this generous gesture, I am not running a giveaway, but asking that you please consider trying out one of these great products, and give to charity at the same time! It’s a win-win for everyone!

My Cassava (aka Yuca) Chips Craze

Earlier this year, while shopping at my local Trader Joe’s, I was approached by one of the employee’s who saw a bag of these Cassava Chips in my shopping cart. She asked if I was aware that they would no longer be carrying them. SAY WHAT? I rushed back to the Chip Aisle and grabbed 3 more bags. The following week I noticed the shelf restocked. I asked if perhaps there had been a mistake. Sadly, the chips were definitely discontinued. They had simply put out the last stash from the back. That was it. No more Cassava Chips at my Trader Joe’s. So, I did what seemed the natural thing to do. I bought the last 12 bags! NO shame, that’s how much I love them. The employees were not surprised at all. I’m in there every week and they were used to me buying a bag just about every time I shopped. My family loves the healthier snack alternative (see nutrients and simple list of recognizable ingredients below). They are gluten-free, low fat and calorie, lightly salted and very satisfying. In two months we went through all the bags. I’ve learned that they are still sold in certain Trader Joe’s throughout the country. So, if you happen to be one of the lucky ones, you need to try them asap!

If you are unfamiliar with it, Cassava is a root found in tropical lands, particularly South America. Known as Yuca (often confused with Yucca, spelled almost the same but entirely a different plant species) in many Latin cultures, it is high in calcium and vitamin C and can be cooked in so many different ways. It has both a sweet and bitter taste, at the same time. Being of South American heritage, it was a very common dish in my home while growing up. I’ve enjoyed yuca patties, stews with yuca in place of potato, boiled yuca, yuca fries, etc., etc. Today I continue in the tradition of serving yuca with my own family’s meals. One of my daughter’s favorite side dishes (and mine) is Yuca Frita (fried cassava).  I am fortunate enough to find frozen cassava (by Goya) at my local Super Giant grocery store. I boil the yuca chunks, cut them into thinner slices, then fry them in some Grape Seed or Olive Oil, sprinkle with some sea salt, and serve with sliced cheese, specifically Queso Blanco Fresco. Deliciousness.

Fortunately, while disappointed not to find the Cassava Chips at my Trader Joe’s anymore, I have been comforted in finding very similar products since then. While in California, I discovered Crisp Root Cassava Chips at a local Whole Foods Market. Same convenience and delicious cassava taste, but these chips have a couple of advantages. First of all, they are thick and ridged, making you feel like you’re indulging in some fantastic potato chips, only with less fat and more fiber! Crisp Root Chips also come in different flavors. Our favorites are the Original and the Sea Salt. You can also find BBQ flavored and Thai Ginger Chips. Lastly, and best of all, you can order these great chips online!!! Back here in PA, my Whole Foods does not carry them, so this is a huge plus for me. Just click the image to the right to visit their website for more info and/or place an order.

What I was able to find at my local Whole Foods are Inka Chips, by Inka Crops from Peru.  This brand offers different snack products and are committed to providing healthier more eco-conscious alternatives.  The Mixed Variety bag pictured below contains all my favorites: Plantain, Sweet Potato and Yuca Chips. Individual bags of each are also available. Inka Crops’ products can also be ordered online. Visit their website for more info and/or to order.

If you have not tried Cassava yet (be it as chips or at the growing number of trendy restaurants offering it as a side dish) I hope I’ve inspired you to give it a chance.
